The Jersey Horse of the Year Show (JHOYS) proudly presents its Working Hunter Championship Classes, designed to showcase the all-around ability of the horse or pony — combining jumping talent, manners, movement, and turnout.
These classes test the horse’s versatility through a two-phase format:
🐎 Phase One: Jumping Round
Riders will navigate a rustic-style course of natural fences designed to simulate hunting field conditions. The course is judged on:
🔹 Style over fences
🔹 Technique, boldness, and fluency
🔹 Accuracy and rhythm
Penalties are given for knockdowns, refusals, and errors of course.
🚶♀️ Phase Two: Show & Conformation Judging
After successfully completing the jumping phase, combinations will be asked to perform a short show to demonstrate paces, manners, and suitability. The judge will also assess the horse’s conformation and overall impression.
🌟 Championship Judging
Top combinations from each class may go forward to the Working Hunter Championship, where the highest-scoring and most consistent horses or ponies will compete for the title of JHOYS Working Hunter Champion.
📋 Judged on jumping performance, way of going, and conformation
🎖️ Points and placings contribute to championship standings
🐴 A true test of the complete show horse or pony
